Volunteer for our Walking Tour

We need your help to make this event a success! We welcome people of varying backgrounds, ages, and skills to volunteer for this tour. All volunteers receive one complimentary admission to the tour. Review the following volunteer opportunities we have available below, and fill out the application if interested!

House Tour Docent

  • Time commitment is roughly 4 hours, including the entire tour
  • In advance of the tour, familiarize with the provided script
  • Utilize script for reference during the tour
  • Narrate the script / lead tours of the home you are assigned to while walking patrons through the home via the route instructed
    • Keep groups together
    • Ensure the property is respected and returned to the owner in the condition it was entrusted to us
    • Ensure tour rules are followed
  • On tour day, set up and break down the house tour supplies

Tour Historian

  • Time commitment is roughly 4 hours per tour stop (you may sign up for more than one, if desired)
  • Script writer
    • Work directly with the homeowners/board historian to gather oral histories of the stops and to inventory the work done on the property
    • Work with the board historian to write a script for the tour stop, which the docents will use to educate the public about the history of the stop
  • Will need to meet and tour the stop with other board members and homeowners

Other Volunteer Opportunities

  • Photographer – exterior photos only on the day of the tour
  • Setting up signage and the meet-up spot in the morning
  • Selling tickets at our meet-up spot throughout the day
  • Closing homes, cleaning up signage
  • Various other activities as weather, traffic, and other needs arise
